The first day of school is less about content and more about connection. Students are nervous, routines haven't formed yet, and the way the first hour feels tends to stick with a class for weeks. Teachers who use the first day intentionally, building community, establishing expectations and making students feel seen, tend to have an easier time the rest of the year.

These activities and strategies are practical, low-prep and adaptable across grade levels.
